Drill: bent-elbow sculling

Purpose:
The bent-elbow sculling drill simulates a high-elbow catch.

How to perform the drill:
Lay horizontally in the water, kicking gently to keep your legs afloat. Keeping your elbows high and stable, gently turn your hand inwards at a 45degree angle for the insweep and back out again for the outsweep. Your hands should move in a "figure 8" shape. Really focus on the feeling pressure of water against your hands in all parts of the "figure 8" - this also simulates the pressure you should feel on a proper catch.

Drill: bent-elbow press out

Purpose:
The bent-elbow press out drill simulates the high-elbow needed for efficiency in most strokes. While the drill is performed by standing vertically, imagine it being performed horizontally - this would, in effect, be the same positioning in a high-elbow freestyle catch.

How to perform the drill:
Stand at the edge of the pool, hand on the edge, at least shoulder width apart. Press up and out of the water slowly, then back down again.
